S2E1 – Is This A Cult? (Michelle McLeod)

Faith On Campus Podcast Episode by Ben Smart - Is This A Cult? With Michelle McLeod

University semester is officially underway for 2020, which means we’re back for Season 2 of Faith on Campus!

In this first episode of Season 2, I interview Michelle, who recently graduated from UWA with a degree in Accounting and Business Law. Michelle was raised in a Roman Catholic family, but after experiencing a family tragedy, she became angry at God. She began to think that he was either (a) non-existent, or (b) uncaring.

When she first came to uni, she was approached by someone during Orientation Week from the student group on campus (Christian Union) and was invited to come along to the Christian Union events. With some trepidation she came to one of CU’s public Bible talks, and it was very different to what she’d experienced in the Roman Catholic church. In her own words:

“I got freaked out: I was there with all these strangers, and it was very different to what I was used to. The talk from the Bible was unlike anything I’d heard before, there wasn’t a priest there… So the alarm bells were going off. And I was thinking, “Maybe I’m getting dragged into a cult and this is just their nice exterior to draw people in…”

Have a listen to this episode to hear how her story unfolds!
