Faith On Campus Summer Special – Mission

Faith On Campus Podcast Episode by Ben Smart, Summer Special About Mission

Normally episodes of Faith On Campus come out weekly during uni semester, but this is a bonus Summer Special. In this episode, I interview Mitchell Halls, a Community Development student at Murdoch University, to hear about his recent experience of going on Mission.

Each year in November/December once exams are over, Christian uni students around Australia get together in teams to partner with churches for an intensive week-long Mission. What do students get up to during mission? What’s it like? What’s involved? This episode will give you a first-hand insight into what it’s like.

At one point in the interview I asked Mitchell if he had any advice for students who have thought about Mission and are considering getting involved. I can’t help sharing his response in full:

“I just want to encourage any students thinking about Mission out there that this is such an awesome opportunity. You don’t have to be a ‘super Christian’, we’re all ordinary, we’re all sinners, we’re all weak and vulnerable jars of clay. It’s not by our strength that the kingdom of God is advanced, but it’s all by God. Just put your hand up and trust that God will work in you, and just take the opportunity because you’ll learn and grow so much through it….”

“And you never know the seeds that are sown through telling the gospel… How wonderful and joyful it’ll be to sit in the kingdom of God and to see all these people who have heard the gospel, and you may have been that one step along the line that helped them to become Christians. It’s very controversial to say, but Mission is the best thing on the CU calendar! Some might say NTE or MYC but I think Mission is the best, just go for it, it’s the best week of the year!”

We’ll be back for Season 2 at the end of February, with new episodes coming out weekly during uni semester. In the meantime, you can subscribe on your favourite podcast platform to get the new episodes straight to your phone, and catch up on any episodes from Season 1 you might have missed:
